Jabbing, thrusting, bumping, grinding - there's nothing airy-fairy about the Goddess that awakens on this CD. There's a riff on the opening track that reminds me of . . . Shaft.

Not that there's much that's retro or even traditional about Lucia Hwong's in-your-face shower of goddess energy. Dance, trance, techno, worldbeat - just about all the latest streams of kewl music commingle creatively in this Reiki Master's melting pot. That's right. Hwong makes Reiki energy rock.

Is it hokey? Is it gimmicky? I don't think so. There is some truly original, intriguing, and even beguiling ("Astral Angel") music here. "Mystic Cat" is a mini-masterpiece of eclectic sound and voice collage. Hwong's knack for mixing, matching, and counterpointing instruments, rhythms, genres - you name it - is itself a gift from . . . Goddess.

Goddess never gave such edge.
