WINNIPEG, MB – Thursday, October 5, 2017 – Thiah Management and Consulting in partnership with Black Space – Winnipeg are hosting the first Naturally Gorgeous – Curly Hair Event in Winnipeg at the Norwood Hotel. The event is on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. It will be a fun networking and educational event on how to manage curly hair’s special qualities.

“Historically, in most (hair) schools anything related to black hair was theoretical knowledge,” said Dr. Sandra Sukhan, Red Seal (Hairstyling); Manager, Program and Curriculum Development, Red River College. “And the time is right for it to move to practical application.”

The keynote speaker for the first seminar is Dr. Susan Walker, WTS, a naturopathic doctor and hair and scalp specialist. Dr. Walker created the Earthtones Naturals product line with naturally derived ingredients for curly hair textures. The second seminar will feature live demonstrations where master stylists show parents and caregivers how to resolve their child’s daily hair and maintenance issues. There will also be a mini hair show and question-and-answer periods.

“There is a global natural hair movement away from chemical processing and using synthetic wigs and weaves,” said Shondell Babb, founder of Thiah Management and Consulting who will soon become a certified natural hair consultant. “People are choosing to embrace their naturally curly hair type. We want to educate the community so that people can learn to love their naturally wavy, curly, coily, kinky or Afro-textured hair.”

Market Research firm Mintel estimates that annual sales in the black hair care market are projected to be $761 Million through 2017. Most Winnipeg beauty and grocery stores offer none or a very limited selection of products to effectively manage super curly, or black natural hair. Babb is working with the community to resolve these problems by introducing Canadian based hair products new Winnipeg.

Earthtones Naturals and Love and Shea are Canadian brands and will be featured at the event and were created for curly hair types and one has beard products. Both seminars an opportunity to network with local hair stylists, barbers and other natural hair enthusiasts.
